Unexpected issue #1

So the ceiling supports ran in an unexpected direction, so they had to cut a hole in the wall in order to connect the tubing for the in-floor heat to the existing boiler. I suppose if it's the only issue, it won't be too bad.

More furniture

Here would be the furniture we don't own yet...

...this couch, but in the below color. (probably)

(Oh, and this is actually for the living room-- building a new room seems to make a person want to purchase all sorts of unrelated items.)

Some furniture.

We already bought two of these chairs, one with a matching ottoman.

More walls!

Floor tiles

Here's our pick for the floor-- travertine.

Preparing for floor heat

More progress! Yesterday they put down the insulation and started running the pipe for our in-floor heat.

more granite

This lighter stone, called "Green Bayou" is much richer looking in person. It has tones of blue, green and gray running through the cream base.

Granite shopping

After several trips to the countertop store, we have it narrowed down... maybe. The stone looks completely different in real life. But I suppose it gives you some idea. This stone, called "Blue Marlin" appears much darker in person. It has veins of cream and spots of reddish-brown and blue running throughout.

The plans...

So here are the plans this project is based on. As you may be able to tell, our house has very few 90 degree angles! The room shown to the left is what was the three-season porch, which we are transforming into an all-season room. The room to the right is our dining room. The rooms are now separated by a sliding glass door, which will be removed during the construction. From the dining room, a person will step down two steps into the new room. The dining room and new room will share a granite countertop -- in the dining room side the countertop will be table-height, and in the new room it will be barstool height.

Loving the bobcat!

So, I admit, I love having a bobcat
in the yard. It reminds me of the
things at the playground where
you could dump the sand with the
shovel... always loved those but
couldn't reach the handles. Joe
(contractor) said I could drive it
if I want... that will surely be a
separate post.

By far, the most exciting progress... a wall!

Cement trucks arrive

We have concrete. whoo-hoo!

Preparing for footings

Here's photos from the workers' first day on the job...

Before photos

So here's the room, as it was, a three-season porch (minus the furniture and the carpet). I forget how many bricks made up the floor, but we took them all out ourselves with the help of a friend. The bricks will become our new patio, once the snow melts for good!

Sara & Paul's new room

I've decided to embrace technology and share photos from our remodeling project via this blog. Terribly exciting, I know...
So here's our house.
